The Endangered Languages Research Cluster (ELRC), based at the English Discipline, Khulna University, Bangladesh, is committed to the documentation, preservation, and revitalization of endangered and minority languages, particularly those of Bangladesh and beyond. To strengthen its international collaboration, knowledge exchange, and research visibility, the ELRC welcomes Cluster Associate Members (Overseas) from universities and research institutes outside Bangladesh. These members bring global expertise, comparative perspectives, and academic partnerships to advance the Cluster’s objectives.
Faculty and researchers from relevant disciplines (e.g., Linguistics, Literature, History and Civilization, Cultural Studies, Ethnic Studies, Sociology, Anthropology, Computer Science, Statistics, and Education) of universities/institutes outside Bangladesh
Experts in language documentation, community-based language revitalization initiatives, digital humanities, sociolinguistics, or related disciplines of universities/institutes outside Bangladesh
Student researchers from relevant disciplines (e.g., Linguistics, English, Bangla, History and Civilization, Computer Science, Statistics, Sociology, Anthropology, Cultural Studies, and Education) of universities/institutes outside Bangladesh
Representatives of endangered and minority languages studying at universities/institutes outside Bangladesh
Linguistic community representatives outside Bangladesh
The inclusion of international Cluster Associate Members (Overseas) seeks to:
Foster global academic collaboration in endangered language research and linguistic documentation.
Encourage cross-cultural and comparative studies linking Bangladeshi languages with regional and global contexts.
Facilitate joint research, publication, and fieldwork across institutions and countries.
Strengthen capacity building in research methods, documentation technologies, and academic exchange.
Enhance the international visibility and outreach of ELRC through scholarly networks.
The Cluster Associate Members (Overseas) shall:
Collaborate with ELRC researchers on joint research proposals, publications, and academic events.
Contribute expertise in specialized areas such as field linguistics, digital archiving, corpus linguistics, or language policy.
Participate in ELRC conferences, workshops, and symposia — in person or virtually.
Support the mentoring and training of ELRC researchers and students in advanced methodologies or international standards.
Facilitate institutional partnerships and exchange programmes between ELRC and their home universities.
Represent ELRC internationally by promoting collaborative opportunities and joint visibility in global forums.
Cluster Associate Members (Overseas) are invited by the Chairperson (Coordinator, ELRC), with endorsement from the ELRC Board.
Appointments are typically for a period of three years, renewable upon mutual agreement and continued collaboration.
Membership may be discontinued upon the member’s request or in the event of sustained inactivity.
The Cluster Associate Members (Overseas) shall be recognized as International Research Collaborators of the ELRC.
Their contributions will be acknowledged in publications, events, and collaborative outputs.
They may co-supervise postgraduate or joint research projects (subject to university policy).
They will receive periodic updates on ELRC’s activities and may be invited to serve as external reviewers or advisors.
The Chairperson and Member-Secretary of ELRC shall serve as primary points of contact for coordination.
The Cluster Associate Members (Overseas) may participate in ELRC Board meetings (virtually) when relevant to their collaborations.
These Terms of Reference may be amended upon recommendation by the ELRC Steering Committee and approval by the ELRC Board and subsequently reported to the Faculty Meeting (Academic Committee Meeting) of the English Discipline, Khulna University.
